Help! My Markins Ball Head is No Longer Working

Problem: The locking knob is stuck, and nothing moves. Is there a trick to release the blockage?

Cause & Solution

The blockage happens when the friction adjustment has been over-tightened. Because Markins ball heads work purely mechanically, you can easily resolve the blockage mechanically – no special tools or force required.

4 Steps to Unlock Your Markins Ball Head

  1. Turn the large locking knob clockwise with considerable force. Don’t worry – nothing will break.
  2. If your hand strength isn’t enough, use a tool (e.g., pliers with a soft cloth as padding) to gain more leverage.
  3. The blockage will suddenly release – your ball head will work perfectly again.
  4. Now fully open the friction: Turn the friction knob counterclockwise as far as it will go to prevent the blockage from recurring.

Important note: Avoid over-tightening the friction in the future. The correct setting is achieved when the ball head moves smoothly with the locking knob loose but does not drift on its own.
